okay peeps. my tagboard has come alive. please tell me that it looks ugly. ahahaahahaah. heh. at least it has a retro feel. with the lime greens and hot pink. the yellow-yellow-orange hue sort of blends everything together with my name. hee. i'm waiting for the chicken drumstick to defrost. maybe i'll change it to other colour some other day. i'm happy with the colour now. at least it looks different. not that it's very nice though. hah. bye!

sigh! it's eight o'clock at night and i'm all alone at home! dunno where did everybody go, except that he went for tuition. i'm still waiting for them to come back to cook dinner. argh. and i have no social life on weekdays. zero. zilch. ling. kosong. i can only socialise with my dog, t-rex tan xiao ming. at least he's a nice guy, besides the fact that he pees everywhere and every corner of the backyard. besides my dog, my handphone has become my best friend. it's the most convenient way of communication to the outside world, after msn messenger and the telephone. this week, the only time i stepped out of my house was either on wednesday with weijing. i think i'm going to become senile soon. bleah. i'm getting very paranoid over many things. or i always imagine i hear things. for example, i always imagine hearing the lock on the door turning, or someone lifting the cover of the pots downstairs. sometimes even footsteps, or the screeching when chairs are dragged downstairs. super scary man. especially like now, when there's no one at home. arghh! i'm starting to dread silence. sigh.
today i finally changed my blog skin. it'll last about one month, before i change it again on the 27th of may. i feel something's lacking in this blogskin. there's no punch/x-factor/oompf in it. if you know what i should add to enhance it, do let me know. maybe it just looks too conjested. sigh. whatever la. it's only a temporary one. i'm starting to think of a new one. oh ya! i still have the one mel made me. i should use it soon. heh. i've yet to decide on the theme of my new skin. i shall start thinking about the colour scheme first. it's very important cos it's the first thing people look at when they see a picture. then slowly, they'll focus on the details. maybe i'll make one that has the abstract look. or maybe just a simple one, with sleek clean lines. just like the designerguys always say.
okay. i'm off. bye for now!

this afternoon i took an mrt to cityhall to meet jiaying and together, we went to art friend at bras basah complex. standing in an mrt alone for 20 minutes plus is a very terribly extremely boring thing to do. thus, instead of staring out of the window [from yiochukang to bishan] and then at the floor [from bishan to city hall], i thought of 10 interesting/fun/exciting things to do in a train. here goes:
1] stand beside a person reading a newspaper and try to share the newspaper with him or her. when he flips the page when you've not finished reading, produce a 'tsk' sound, which is a sign of irritation, and show a very annoyed face. this makes him feel at fault.
2] stand in front of a sitting man who's balding [preferably in his 50s], and try to analyse his male hair loss pattern. if you dare, point to one of the beijing 101 /glower/yun nam hair care's advertistment and suggest that maybe he should go there for treatment. be sure that to be in the know about such things, in case he enquires.
3] stand in the middle of the carriage without holding on to the poles. try to balance. for best effect, close your eyes while doing this. in case you fall, grab the person beside you and say 'sorry! i fell asleep and dreamt that i fell off a building'.
4] grab on to a poll very tightly and when the train moves, say that you're scared cos the train's moving too fast.
*5] try to do pull ups on the bars.
*6] try to do gymnastics on the handles. look for some space and do jumping jacks. then, loudly exclaim ' the world's first movable gym'.
7] stare out the window and look as though you're enjoying the scenery. and just keep staring even when the train is in a tunnel. smile to yourself.
*8] stand at the entrance and not move when people are alighting or boarding. turn your head robotically from side to side and look confused.
9] tap our feet and your hands, and nod you head rhythmically as though you're listening to imaginary music.
10] stand beside someone who is typing an sms, and try to read what he's typing. correct any grammatical or spelling errors. when he receives an sms, try reading it as well.
* do those with an asterisk at your own risk. they might result in the station inspector chasing you out.

my whole body hurts.
i think i've got three so-called ulcers in my mouth. one on the top left, one on the top left and the other at the bottom in the centre. i'm not sure if they're called ulcers cos there aren't any lumps or bumps. it's just very painful. sort of like a stinging sensation and it hurts so badly. maybe it's heatiness. sigh. i just drank about 1.5 litres of water. and now i'm so full. bleah.
my neck and shoulder and my legs hurt too. the other day i didnt sleep properly, in some awkward position, which made my neck and shoulder ache badly. sigh.
ok.i shall end here. i'm so tired. bye.

i was just to tired to blog yesterday. cos you see, my new maid left yesterday, just three and half days after she came here. which means that we're now left maidless. in the morning, out of a sudden, she told my mum that she wanted to call the agency to ask for a change in employer. atfter a while, the indonesian agency suddenly called and talked and counciled to her. it must have cost them a bomb for this ten minute overseas call. anyway, she just kept crying and insisted that she really wanted to balek agency. to cut the long story short, we finally brought her back to the agency and that was the end. it was only at the agency did we realise that she told the singapore and indonesian agency different stories. she said to one of them that my dog licked her, and said to another that my house was too big, or something to that effect. but it didnt matter anymore. she wasnt coming back. please note that we didnt abuse or bully her, nor did we force her to eat pork. we always cook pork as the last dish so that the rest wont be 'contaminated'.
if there were something i really pitied, it would be the foreign domestic helpers. i am deeply saddened seeing the way they treat the maids at the agency. not that they abuse her whatsoever, but they do not treat maids the way they are supposed to be treated. they made 'problem case' maids like mine, stand in the corner of the office. and even on the day they meet their to-be-employers, the agency wouldnt give them any food to eat, assuming that they can eat at their employer's house. what is this? i'm sure that the agency people wouldnt want to be treated this way either. sometimes, maids even own up things that they didnt even do so as not to be accused of lying, if they stand up for what they think is right. this is so damn unfair to them. not because they are maids so everything they do is wrong. many singaporeans also have this misconception that since most domestic helpers are from third world or developing countries, they are considered to be in the 'lower class'. they dont deserve to eat the good food that we eat, and should only eat foods that are cheaper, or lower in quality. this is discrimination. shouldnt we treat others the way we want to be treated? since God made as all in his image, we should all be treated equally. sigh. domestic helpers are such poor things.
alright. enough said about maids. my right arm's aching, due to ironing. since yesterday, i've been ironing all the clothes because as i said earlier, i have no maid. as i'm not a right hander, my right hand is very much weaker as compared to my left hand. and since the plug is on the right side of the ironing board, i'm force to iron with my right hand, for the the cord wouldnt be long enough and would get tangled up if i used my left. so this is terribly strenuous task for me. ironing for half an hour is equivalent to playing the guitar for about one hour straight. at least it would help me strenghten my muscles in my right hand without gyming.
we're currently considering not to have a maid. think about all the money saved. we could go on a holiday to say, africa? or kenya or nepal or china etc. i always like to go to countries where the currency is weaker to that of singapore's, so that it would be our gain. furthermore, there wouldnt be a point going to developed countries like the united states or europe, as what we see would be relatively similar to singapore. also since the american dollar and the euro are much stronger than singapore's, we would end up spending lots and lots of money. for example, 50 over bucks just for a taxi ride. isnt this just too much? we would also end up staying in those lousy 2-3 star hotels which are not worth the price we're paying for. whereas in countries in china, taxi rides only cost us just a few cents or dollars, and the rest of the money can be spent shopping, or trying some of their local delicacies. also, we can also afford to stay in higher class hotels, which would make our stay there a more comfortable one.
okay. i shall end here. it's time for designer guys!

yesterday i made history by burning porridge. i gladly called it claypot porridge. *smiles proudly to myself for i have done something wonderful*. you see, if you eat claypot rice, the bottom layer of rice would always be burnt. so the same concept goes for my porridge. it smelled burnt too. or to be more precise, the fragrant aroma of a pot of steaming hot claypot porridge. my mum said that for the first time in her life, someone actually burned porridge. porridge would never burn because of the amount of water in it. the water would just keep boiling and boiling. however, my resaon is simple. i didnt put much water into the pot [ call it porridge], and after that, conveniently left it over the stove with high heat without stirring whatsoever. you might think that i couldn't make up my mind whether i wanted to cook porridge or rice. but the fact is, i aimed to cook porridge.
anyway, i thought it was a good attempt as at least, i was the FIRST to do such a thing. like any typical singaporean would think, first is always good. not second, not third, but first. for instance, being first in a queue, first in class position, first to get up a bus, first to alight, first to buy the newest gadget in town, first to get the freebie, the first to open a night safari, the first to open the underwater world et cetera. besides wanting to be the first in everything, we also strive to be the best in all aspects. the first line of my secondary school's student creed reads 'i'm and unique and worthy, within me lies the power to be the best that i can be'. we have the best airport in the world, one of the best ports, one of the best zoos, the best achievement scores in the maths and science olympiad, and according to some write-ups, the best managed city. isn't it good to be the best? there are so many things that we can be proud of. however, still, many europeans don't know what 'a singapore', and neither have they heard of it nor know where it is. many of them think that singapore is part of china, due to the fact that singapore is a chinese-majority country. they are quite stupid. heh

this morning, i woke up at 7am to the sound of the vacuum cleaner. my maid vacuumed the bed at 7 in the morning!! arghh. but i thought it was quite funny. i got out of bed and asked her to stop it and happily went back to slumberland. then at about 9am, i woke up again. :) i attempted to cook black rice. in case you dont know what it is, it's a kind of desert. not that the rice is rotten, or not that the rice is an indian. sorry for being racist. :) at least this time round, i put more water and up to now, i still dont smell anything burning so i guess it should be correct. heh. i'm going to be a great chef.
alright. it's going ot be eleven thirty soon. time for designer guys. a superb show for aspiring interior designers.
so do i still want to be a chef?
i am unique and worthy
within my lies the power to be the best that i can be
i shall seek to be upright in character,
exemplary in behaviour and steadfast in spirit
i shall learn continuously, think creatively,
and strive for excellence in whatever i do
i shall be respectful and caring to be family members,
teachers, and fellow students
above all, i shall be compassionate to the less fortunate

i'm getting used to my new maid already. her name's yanti. a very petite young woman she is, standing at only 145cm. she cant reach the top shelf! oh boy. i'm about 24-25cm taller than her. and i cant believe the fact that she claims to be 23 years old. hah. but she's very cute. she uses a mickey mouse toiletry bag, and a mickey mouse towel. she's a person with modern dress sense, coming here with a pair of blue canvas shoes and white and blue shoe laces. 'yes ma'm' and thank you ma'm' are the main words in her english vocabulary. it's ok. i'll train her and by the time her contract ends, she'd know how to speak english that is of course, peppered with some singlish as well. last time yati knew what 'mai ani kwan' was. meaning 'dont like that', in terribly broken english. she also knew when to use 'words' like 'lah' or 'meh', and even included them when talking to her sister in bahasa indonesia. so you see the power of singlish.
now i've got to get used to the extreme cleanliness of my house and the extreme neatness of my desk. these are just not me. okay, maybe the clean part, yes, but the neat part, NO! with a capital N and a capital O! at least it motivates me to continue to keep my desk tidy. i feel bad making such a small person do so much work, although she's not obliged to do it. talk about my whole house!
actually i think this extreme cleanliness thing would only last, say, one or two months. the first time a maid comes, she'd do her very best to please her employers. first impression counts. but soon, as they get more familiar with the household and such, they would slowly slacken off. she'll find short cuts or easy way outs in doing stuff. maybe like ironing two shirts at a time etc. heh. soon, she'd start to make friends with the neighbourhood maids and get all the latest gossips about their employers. this is when we should be vigilant and take notice of what we do. indeed, there is no privacy at all. people say that with an internet connection, there's no privacy for anyone as the government can easily track us down. however, even without an internet connection, we still, have no privacy, cos we have maids. the neighbours would soon know what time we wake up in the morning and other queer habits of ours, and vice versa.
maids, maids, maids. sometimes we just can't do without them. or can we?

as we go on
we remember
all the times we
had together
and as our lives change
come whatever
we will still be
friends forever
after missing yati, i'm starting to miss more and more people. like relatives who have passed on, and classmates. yes! classmates! especially my clique, The Cheapo Gang. marya, hawa, jacq, heidi, and most of all, my dear grace. sigh.
how i wish yat would renew her contract once again. for the umpteenth time i'm say this, i really miss her, although she's only gone for one day. i guess i just got to forget about everything. sigh.

oh man. i'm so sad. yati finally went back to indonesia yesterday evening. she went back for good, after four long years here. gosh. i soo miss here. this is the first time i miss someone so so so much. sigh! i wont get to see her anymore. gone are the days when i would sneak up stealthily behind her and give her a shock. gone are the days when i would spray water from upstairs and tell her that it's raining. darn. it was so fun and now i'm so sad. sad sad sad. no other maids can be compared to her. oh man. she wasn't just a domestic helper, but my 'part-time-once-in-a-while' confidante as well. and i so regret not saying the final goodbye after she passed the immigration counter in the airport. we were talking about some rubbish and missed her waving goodbye to us. she must feel so sad too. i guess she's sad also because of the excess baggage payment of forty four dollars she has to pay. she could have used the hundred dollars to buy her family members souvenirs from the airport duty free shops. poor thing :(
now i've got no one to talk to in the afternoons and no one to make fun of or to be maked fun. sigh. gosh. i cant stand this. i want yati back!!
the new maid just arrived. she looks alright. at least not the fierce looking and threatening sort. she's super small size. just like a pea. quite skinny too. actually i feel quite bad asking her to do so many things around the house because she's so small! just like a p5 or p6 student. how can we expect someone so tiny to clean the whole house!! imagine a p6 student vacuuming the basement, living room, dining room, cleaning the rooms upstairs and the attic. doesnt it seem a little too much? but the thing that assures me is the fact that she has worked for a saudi arabian family of seven before. so i guess she's now problem with five of us, plus a dog and one fish, and many plants.
but i still want yati! argghh!
somewhere out there
someone's saying a prayer
that we'll find one another
in that big somewhere out there..

okay. i've given it much thought. due to the fact that my birthday is coming soon, on the 27th of may, i've decided to write a list of the things i want, so that it would assist you in your decision making. what decision you make is important, so maybe you could do with some help. here's it.
1. a big box of GOOD QUALITY coloured pencils. most preferably faber castell or lyra. good quality means that the lead would not break when dropped or when sharpened. the lead should be soft when colouring and should not feel waxy or produce 'dust' when colouring.
2. GOOD QUALITY coloured markers, and black markers of different sizes [005, 01,02, 03,05,06,08]. good quality means the ink would not dry so quickly, and the tip of the markers should not become blunt after much usage. for the coloured markers, the colour shouldnt fade or change over time. black markers shouldnt turn brown, and should be able to write on plastic surfaces.
3. guitar strap
4. electone
5. a new bag
6. berms
alright. so here they are. five simple things. remember, my birthday's on the twenty seventh day of the fifth month. or just 27 of may la. hee.
i just read andrea's blog about maids and that reminded me that my maid's going home already. i'm so sad. i've got no one to talk to for the next month or so before my school starts. yes, there willl be a new maid, but it still wont change the fact that my dear yati is gone. sigh. i hope the new maid's good. sigh, again. sigh. i hope sunday doesnt come so fast.
by the way, i just heard from my maid that my neighbour's maid got abused. it is said that her ma'am slaps her face and denies her of food. two of her employer's younger children also beat and slap her. actually i'm not really surprised because they're indians and can be very authoritative, especially when they're high in the ranks. maybe they still believe that they're in india's caste system [in the singapore context], which still exists today. maybe she thinks that because her husband's a laywer, she's in the brahman, which is the highest level of the caste system. the maid, i guess is a srilankan indian. to think that she abused someone her own race is really out of this world. my goodness. if she were a chinese, it would be understandable if it's discrimination. however, in this case, she seems to be discriminating her own race!! anyhow, discrimination is both morally and socially wrong. what has become of the world?!?!?!?!
switzerland sets an example for us. switzerland, like singapore, is a multi racial country, with german, french, spanish etc speaking people. we should respect the minority groups by compromising and accomodating. the majority speaking group favours the minority. take the german speaking cantons for example. they have subsidised french schools. in other words, the german speaking canton allows more money to be spent on french schools. this plays a huge part in the peace and harmony in switzerland.
oh my, i studied too hard for social studies. although many students think that it's a chore studying for social studies, i, however beg to differ. instead, i feel that it's very relevant and i enjoy it. in fact, it's the easiest subject. it teaches youths to be more aware of the world around us, trains us to be more analytical and makes us more socially upright people. we learnt that fighting is not good for us, from the case of the the LTTE[liberation of tamil tigers elam] and the sinhalese. we learnt that respect and tolerance is vital in a small multi racial country like singapore, in the topic about switzerland. we learnt why the government is putting in so much effort in our education and why we're learning what we're learning, in the topic of the education in singapore. we learnt to appreciate our high standards of living here, through the topic of housing, as compared to the situation in hongkong. etc etc.
in another perspective, some students think that social studies is also a big huge government propaganda. let me elaborate a little, but not too much. for example, take the topic on public housing. it shows the transformation of public housing since the times when people were living in slums and squatters till the time the first hdb flats were built in toapayoh[i think]. people might think that the government wants to promote themselves whatsoever, but nothing can deny the fact that they've already done a good job. i can daringly say that 90+% of singaporeans have a roof over their heads. at precisely 7pm, the street lamps in my estate would be turned on. the drainge systems all over the country are well planned and maintained. do you smell sewage? look at the roads. are they dirt tracks? no! imagine..just fifty over years ago, none of these were in place, or at least in proper working condition. so i dont see the need of the government promoting themselves. you can see it all through their implementations and schemes. now the government's upgrading every hdb block. even though i dont live in a flat, i still think they're doin a great job. imagine again, the amount of planning the have to go through. there are thousands of hdb blocks! of course there are glitches here and there, but it's obvious that their merits certainly outweigh their demerits. [this phrase is used wrongly, but you should know what i mean]. i'm definitely voting for the people's action party. they really take action. fast.
okay. i shall end here. remember, my birthday is on the 27th of may. have a good day and i hope you had a good read, although every paagraph talks about different things.

recently, i've taken up dictionary reading as my new found interest. it feels real good learning so many new and cheem words, and also the various ways the words can be used and figures of speech. whenever i see a new word, my hands would automatically reach for the longman dictionary of contemporary english beside me to check out the meaning. isnt' it fun? if not, randomly flipping through the pages of the dictionary to an alphabet and reading the it is equally good too. for example, i learnt why 'alpha and omega' means 'first and last'. it is because 'alpha' is the first alphabet of the greek alphabet, and omega is the last. of course, i also learnt many crude words, which i have decided not to type here. it is only now that i can do such things. it's because i'd be starting school soon. to be precise, on the sixteenth day of the fifth month. [please do not look at the lunar calender or the muslim or hindu calender] therefore, i would not be able to enjoy the luxury of sitting down at my study table to enjoy the wonders of the dictionary. wonders? what a word to describe a dictionary.
as you might have guessed, or maybe you didnt, i only have one fish left. the sole survivor who survived all the water changing, over feeding and everything else that could happen to a fish that is kept by me. the survival of the fittest. at least i managed to keep one fish alive. or rather, that fish was the most determined to live. i think the rest of the fish were cruel to die so quickly and leave only one of their friend behind. but fishie, it's alright. i'm sure i make a good friend. dont i?

this is what's left after last night's steamboat and ala carte buffet dinner at mouth restaurant at safra toapayoh. it was dad's birthday cum maid's farewell. i ate far more prawns than that cos they cleared the table two to three times.
i baked this professional looking cake for my dad's birthday. so pretty right. it's the normal chocolate cake from cake mix, smeared with half a large bottle of nuttela and topped with m&ms to make a nice and lovely smiley face. it should be eaten with vanilla ice cream for taste enhancement. i know guys cant wait to sink your teeth into this oh! so chocolatey chocolate cake. perfect for the taste buds. thanks to my brilliance. i offer my service to anyone, at a negotiable cost. please tag, if you wish to order. do include your name and contact number.
the end product: an empty plate with remains of nuttela chocolate spread and vanilla icecream. yummmy. *burrrrrrrrrrppppp*

just came back from paragon. it's the second consecutive sunday. there's this little shoe exhibition at the atrium organised my salvatore ferragamo. so again, i went to have a look at them. for the first time in my life, i think that these kind of shoes are nice. however, i wont wear them cos they're too dainty for clumsy peoples like me. it's too big a risk for me to put on a eight hundered dollar pair of heels out to the streets. i might just get the heels stuck in the drain covers, or accidentally step into a puddle of rainwater. furthermore, i might step on my own shoes and trip, or might accidentally kick the leg of a table or a chair. so as you can see, these kind of shoes are definitely not meant for me. probably in future when i'm more careful. i'm better off wearing canvas shoes. like the one i painted. it's the most expensive pair of shoe in the world. the one and only. *drum rolls and clash*
the shoes were all so terribly elegant and lovely. most of them were studded with precious stones. no wonder the had to hire security guards. i'm not suprised if they had to work 24 hour shifts. most of the shoes there are the ones custom made for world famous celebraties like zhang ziyi and drew barrymore, madonna et cetera. 'salvatore, who hails from southern italy, perfectly understood the power of the shoes on the female psyche and always offered his clientele infinite possibilities- a breathetaking selection of shoes for every occasion and every mood.' this quote is taken from the a short write up about salvatore ferragamo. the opening of his custom made shoe business coincided with the rise of hollywood. thus this gave his business a huge boom due to the needs of moviestars, especially females. salvatore took the clients' measurements himself and knew exactly the needs and preferences of his clients. for example, he knew that marilyn monroe like shoes with pointed toes, whereas audrey hepburn prefered lower heels. each shoe was custom made to suit the occasion. hence, his service was always very well received. up to this very day, the ferragamo tradition of producing quality shoes remains, even after salvatore died int the year 1960.
one pair that i like is called the 'court shoe', created for marilyn monroe. it is studded with red swaroski rubies which sparkled under the spot light. oh my, the elegance and gracefulness of it was alluring. but then again, i wont wear these kind of shoes. they are only meant for the eyes. another one that i like is the gold one, that looks like an elf's or a pixie's shoe. it has this nice curve at the tip of the shoes. what a charm. but i wonder who he made it for. perhaps for some fancy dress party, which i guess was quite popular in the 19th century. we hardly hear about fancy dress parties these days right. do we?
i dont think i'd wear heels anytime soon. they're bad for the back as it straines the lower back bone area. also, it puts a lot of pressure on the toes, which causes numbeness due to the lack of blood flow and oxygen. so peeps, it's better ti opt for lower heels, that is if you want to wear them. it'd also spare you all the discomfort like blisters, and aching joints.
