yesterday i made history by burning porridge. i gladly called it claypot porridge. *smiles proudly to myself for i have done something wonderful*. you see, if you eat claypot rice, the bottom layer of rice would always be burnt. so the same concept goes for my porridge. it smelled burnt too. or to be more precise, the fragrant aroma of a pot of steaming hot claypot porridge. my mum said that for the first time in her life, someone actually burned porridge. porridge would never burn because of the amount of water in it. the water would just keep boiling and boiling. however, my resaon is simple. i didnt put much water into the pot [ call it porridge], and after that, conveniently left it over the stove with high heat without stirring whatsoever. you might think that i couldn't make up my mind whether i wanted to cook porridge or rice. but the fact is, i aimed to cook porridge.
anyway, i thought it was a good attempt as at least, i was the FIRST to do such a thing. like any typical singaporean would think, first is always good. not second, not third, but first. for instance, being first in a queue, first in class position, first to get up a bus, first to alight, first to buy the newest gadget in town, first to get the freebie, the first to open a night safari, the first to open the underwater world et cetera. besides wanting to be the first in everything, we also strive to be the best in all aspects. the first line of my secondary school's student creed reads 'i'm and unique and worthy, within me lies the power to be the best that i can be'. we have the best airport in the world, one of the best ports, one of the best zoos, the best achievement scores in the maths and science olympiad, and according to some write-ups, the best managed city. isn't it good to be the best? there are so many things that we can be proud of. however, still, many europeans don't know what 'a singapore', and neither have they heard of it nor know where it is. many of them think that singapore is part of china, due to the fact that singapore is a chinese-majority country. they are quite stupid. heh

this morning, i woke up at 7am to the sound of the vacuum cleaner. my maid vacuumed the bed at 7 in the morning!! arghh. but i thought it was quite funny. i got out of bed and asked her to stop it and happily went back to slumberland. then at about 9am, i woke up again. :) i attempted to cook black rice. in case you dont know what it is, it's a kind of desert. not that the rice is rotten, or not that the rice is an indian. sorry for being racist. :) at least this time round, i put more water and up to now, i still dont smell anything burning so i guess it should be correct. heh. i'm going to be a great chef.
alright. it's going ot be eleven thirty soon. time for designer guys. a superb show for aspiring interior designers.
so do i still want to be a chef?
i am unique and worthy
within my lies the power to be the best that i can be
i shall seek to be upright in character,
exemplary in behaviour and steadfast in spirit
i shall learn continuously, think creatively,
and strive for excellence in whatever i do
i shall be respectful and caring to be family members,
teachers, and fellow students
above all, i shall be compassionate to the less fortunate
and loyal to my school and nation
